April Safety Topic April is Fire and Earthquake Drill Month. We would like all staff to clarify where their meeting spot is and make sure they are aware of the exits to use in their buildings. Also, we would like to remind staff that we ask them to do the fire drill at least twice a year and some programs are required to conduct monthly drills.

BC Business Magazine If you pick up a copy of this month's BC Business Magazine you'll notice that it features a 9-page spread on Coast Mental Health. Though all of Coast's services were covered, there was a special feature on the three major new housing programs which opened in 2011. There was also a special section on LEED - or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design - Two of Coast's new buildings - Pacific Coast Apartments and Dunbar Apartments - are LEED's Gold! Indicating these are very "GREEN" Buildings Key consultants and partners bought ad space to finance this extensive coverage. http://www.bcbusinessonline.ca/sites/default/files/BCB_0412_CMH.pdf

Concurrent Disorder Transitions Program Closed! On Friday the last clients left Coast's Dreamweaver and Reason's Way programs on Riverview grounds. Most were placed in community based facilities in the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority region, but a few moved to Vancouver Island, Fraser Health, and other parts of the province. It is very sad that these very valuable services have been closed due to lack of funding. Over the little more than two year history, they have provided a true opportunity for recovery for many clients with complex mental health, substance use and primary health challenges. The program staff are continuing until the end of April to help facilitate a positive transition for the affected clients. In addition a much smaller "Enhanced Supportive Independent Living" program will be providing a rent subsidy and support for more than 10 of the original clients.
